It provides high-performance matrix preconditioners toward that end, and can be linked with other software such as PETSc and Illuminator for parallel computation of the linear equations, solution, visualization, etc. It is written by a team at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories. Unfortunately, the license includes a "No commercialization" clause, which makes it very much non-free. I have contacted the upstream authors to request explicit permission to redistribute it, and also to ask that they consider relicensing under a free license. (Incidentally, the Babel project, also written at LLNL, switched from a similar "no commercialization" license to LGPL, and my request to them for free licensing apparently carried some weight in their case to management.) When I receive this permission, I will upload hypre packaging, with the contents of both the COPYRIGHT_and_DISCLAIMER file below and their authorization email in the debian/copyright file.
