Hi Joshua, Thank you for proposing to take over maintenance of the AVR toolchain in Debian! I'd be very sad if it had to be abandoned.
To start off, may I point your attention to https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=983993 ? This is a pretty serious issue, and I can't find any information online that would point to a solution. I suspect it's the ancient Atmel toolchain that is at fault here. Perhaps it's time to ditch them and move to mainline binutils, gcc and avr-libc instead? Also, I suspect they might be in violation of the GPL by hiding their source packages behind a registration wall: https://ww1.microchip.com/downloads/Secure/en/DeviceDoc/ARM-GNU-Toolchain-6.3.1-src.zip redirects to https://www.microchip.com/wwwregister/default.aspx . On another note, is there a Debian team that was responsible for AVR support, or has this always been just you, Hakan? In that case, perhaps it would make sense to move the AVR packages to https://salsa.debian.org/electronics-team / https://alioth-lists.debian.net/pipermail/pkg-electronics-devel/ ? I'd be happy to help with the packaging effort, if you need any help. Regards, Greg
