I am close to pushing many updates to Salsa for OpenBoard, targetting Debian 11. The to-be-pushed changes will likely break building OpenBoard 1.5.4 (not 1.5.3, as we have there now) on Debian buster.
I'll try to make a backport happen once the official upload of OpenBoard has landed in Debian testing (upcoming 11).
