Bug#150017: Status of packaging gdal -- Geospatial Data Abstraction Library?

Packaging GDAL is still on the agenda. There are some issues to be 
sorted out upstream (bad soname usage) first before this can be 
included in Debian though. Myself and others are making (slow) progress 
on this.
