The EICAR virus test pattern is an important tool to test virus scanners. However, unfortunately, it does not have a free license and cannot be distributed with Debian. This package downloads the EICAR virus test pattern from the Web in its postinst. It can thus be relied on that the EICAR virus test pattern is available in /var/lib/eicar-installer/eicar.com if eicar-installer is installed. That way, a package needing the EICAR virus test pattern for its operation could depend on eicar-installer instead of having to take care for downloading eicar.com itself. If none of the other developers volunteers to build that package, I will do so next week.
