They are both shell scripts, both run from cron tabs and have similar goals. They differ in configuration and in the snapshots they create. I would not have a problem using zfsnap if my clients had not already been using zfs-auto-snapshot for some years and have based additional work flow on that. Converting to zfsnap wouldn't be trivial. The reason for wanting this in Debian is to avoid either having to add a PPA or having to install git to install some shell scripts. It doesn't seem like one of them is clearly better than the other, they are two implementations that seem to be widely used, and I can see how having two of them might be somewhat confusing to users who have to make a choice, but I believe its better to have it available in the archives rather than having to download a tarball. -Jonathan
