I was led by https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=693135 into looking at packaging this archlinux package https://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/pkg-perl/packages/xdg-menu-convert.git/tree/?id=72ad66b . I am now having second thoughts as to whther this is worthwhile. As you are the owner of the menu* packages I think you would be best placed to comment.

The package would proivde a means for converting from freedesktop files to menus useable by certain X window managers. I believe this is not currently in Debian and and if it was integrated with existing tools it would mean applications could just provide freedesktop support and which might encourage the adoption of frfeedesktop.

However this integration work would require a certain amount of coding as far as I can see which might be better spent of enhancing, say, the menu package to be format tolerant.

        I would apprecviate your feedback.
