The page http://www.htmlhelp.com/tools/validator/differences.html lists some differences (they aren't many) between the two versions. They do basically the same job, but the w3c validator is seen by many people as the standard program for HTML validation, so I think it is worth being packaged. In addition, it is under heavy development and many features are being added to make it the "Swiss army knife" of HTML checking (see for example the page http://validator.w3.org:8001/todo.html). The linkchecker is an example of such a feature that is not present in the wdg validator. Frédéric
