This version contains the complete 897 character set, which includes the standard ISO Latin 1, Latin CE, Greek and Cyrillic character sets. Open Sans was designed with an upright stress, open forms and a neutral, yet friendly appearance. It was optimized for print, web, and mobile interfaces, and has excellent legibility characteristics in its letterforms. This is a part of my Google Summer of Code project on packaging elementary software for Debian, see https://wiki.debian.org/SummerOfCode2014/Projects/PackageElementarySoftware for more information. Although Open Sans is already provided by the texlive-fonts-extra package, shipping it in a separate package is required to bring down the installed size for elementary-theme combined with dependencies from over 750Mb to under 5Mb.
