The frozen-bubble package, already in Debian, is another Puzzle Bobble
clone; built on SDL, it has sound support, but no player vs. computer
mode. Is there any chance that some of the xbubble AI could be
contributed to frozen bubble, rather than adding Yet Another Game to
the distro?

frozen-bubble is also licensed under the GPL.
