Package: wnpp Version: N/A; reported 2001-08-24 Severity: wishlist Hi,
There's been a lot of font talking for the last few days, one of them being a lack of free truetype fonts. The openoffice suite however is LGPLed (dual-licensed actually, but hey) and it includes among others a nice set of truetype fonts, possibly even some replacements for the standard X fonts (like helvetica). It'd be nice if someone could package these, I would do it myself but don't have the time right now. They also don't have te be packaged only as part of the openoffice packaging effort, they are useful enough for themselves. The fonts are available from: * openoffice CVS, in installation/extras/source/truetype/ (module is installation/extras, source/truetype/ is a directory in that module). Except for one all of them are currently in Attic/ right now, I searched the lists and this is not because of license issues or something but apparently because some non-XFree86 X servers have problems with these fonts; someone posted on the mailing lists that they will be reinstated afther they've been able to resolve these issues. * the CVS access actually seems to be down right now, but you can still retreive them through the web fronted to it. * well... we're not the first to package this (for once ;-), redhat already has a ttfonts package in their rawhide directory which contain exactly these fonts. If noone takes this within a few weeks, I'll take them when I have time again.
