Cleanest thing for the remailer would be to make the stats itself. Cmeclax as well as christian mock (austria remop) both have written/ are writing stats engines on unix. They could be packaged too. Maintaining the list of hosts to ping is some work tho so perhaps also offer a simply downloader for stats (that runs daily).
