You would seem at first glance to have the motivation and the skills for it, and by contributing this patch it seems to me that you have earned the right. As to me, I have not lost interest, but my progress on # 282283 is too slow for Dpkg development to wait for me, if there is a more capable person who also has interest and who will devote more time than I will.
