Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

lavaps is already part of the Debian archive. In a wishlist bug report
(#243328), a TCL/TK version was asked for. I now intend to create one.
All the information relating to the new package is the same as the
original, but I include it here again for reference.

* Package name    : lavaps-tcl
  Version         : 2.6
  Upstream Author : John Heidemann <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL             : http://www.isi.edu/~johnh/SOFTWARE/LAVAPS/index.html
* License         : GPL
  Description : a lava lamp of currently running processes (TCL/TK version)

Lavaps is an interactive process-tracking program like ``top'', but with
a much different attitude. Rather than presenting lots of specific info
in digital form, it tries to present certain important information in a
graphical analog form. The idea is that you can run it in the background
and get a rough idea of what's happening to your system without devoting
much concentration to the task.

This version is built against TCL/TK libraries for those who do not wish
to have a GTK environment.

This ITP is being closed, because lavaps-tcl has been rejected from the
Debian archive by ftpmasters.

lavaps-tcl was uploaded on 28/1/2005, but was halted in the new queue of
the Debian archive. Following discussion with ftpmasters, it has been
decided that a version of lavaps specifically for tcl/tk does not
warrant an extra package. This is because most people will have gtk
libraries for other programs anyway, and there is no functional
difference between the gtk and tcl/tk versions.

If you really need the tcl/tk version, you can grab the source of lavaps
and configure with --with-tcltk flag. An example compile against tcl/tk
8.4 would be:

./configure \
 --prefix=/usr \
 --sysconfdir=/etc \
 --mandir=/usr/share/man \
 --with-tcltk \
 --with-tcl-ver=8.4 \
 --with-tk-ver=8.4 \
 --with-additional-includes=-I/usr/include/tcl8.4 \
 --with-tcltk-lib-suffix-type=dot
