You might need to recompile glibc. But first you should do some sanity checking to be sure that you are running up against hard limits.
Oh, and before you start looking into that, don't overlook just lowering the value of -Xss passed to the JVM.
You've probably tried that, but if you haven't, and you think it would be helpful, well, I hope your solution is that simple.
