I'm not sure, but I think that the uw-imapd shipped with sarge is by default set to
use tls support. So any non-compliant client won't be able to log in. I'm using
Sylpheed because it supports well. You could also have a look at the documentation in
/usr/share/doc/libc-client2002debian/
Might be this could help:
dpkg-reconfigure -plow libc-client2002ddebian
