This is weird. It was still locked up this morning, so I started closing programs, preparatory to the necessary "non-clean" reboot.
Except something in one of the programs I was closing must have been wedging things, because abruptly the hard drives went into overdrive and load quickly climbed to over 111(!) on a system normally under 0.4. See, cron jobs had also been wedged in mid-startup, and they all came unwedged simultaneously, so I had a daily backup, updatedb, wget, chkrootkit, etc. all trying to start up and run at the same time. Now everything's normal, and I'm still very confused. -- Carl Fink [EMAIL PROTECTED] Jabootu's Minister of Proofreading http://www.jabootu.com -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
