Just installed the 2.6.5-1 kernel. (Along with latest hotplug,) no more string of redundant messages, no more ppp1 nonsense and while uhci-hcd (now needs be loaded again from /etc/modules) is still problematic on shutdown, shutdown procedes normally after the two error messages. My 2.6.3 and 2.6.4 have been removed, no regrets :-)
