Hi all,

I am trying to get udev to work properly. After installing the udev
package my system booted fine from my SCSI drive, seems to detect the alsa
devices and stuff. But: it doesn't detect my IDE anymore.

Of course I can create a device node in /dev manually with mknod or a
symlink to /etc/udev/.dev/, but that doesn't sound like the udev way.

In the list archives I found this solution:
M hda2 b 3 2
to add to /etc/udev/udev.links. This would mean I have to spend some time
to add all my disks and usual symlinks to this file, but that's fine.

However, I thought that the idea of udev was not to create hard nodes and
that the deamon corresponds with the user by self chosen names. So I am
getting a bit confused.

There is a lot of documentation about the pro's of udev and how wonderful
it is, but I found very few documents on how to actually set this up.

Thanks in advance,
Sebastiaan

The software box said 'Requires Windows 95 or better', so I installed Linux.
