I don't know how big the text file is, but I normally use the mouse's
middle button to paste.  Try selecting the text you want to paste by
click-'n'-dragging the mouse over the selection, then position the
cursor in the Mozilla window and click the middle button.

Large amounts of text can be picked up by displaying the text file in a
huge xterm window and/or sequential pastes of blocks copied while
displaying the file with more/less/most/whatever.

Of course, the best solution involves a different email program (e.g.
mutt) in which you choose your editor (joe, in my case). This gives you
the control you want, including the ability to insert files in their
entirety...
