Hello all!!

   I'm trying to install Debian on my second computer and have ran into 
some problems... All my hard disks are connected to my computer via an 
SiI680 based PCI IDE controller...

   Now, it seems that the Debian CD's that I have (3.0r1) dont have the 
siimage driver built into the kernel...

   I've tried every flavor of kernel that the CD's have to no avail. I 
know why now -- linux-2.4.18 which is was the bf24 image is based on doesnt 
have the SiI680 driver in the source tree.....

   I thought I'd try grabbing the driver off of one of my Redhat machines 
and stuffing it onto an 'essential driver floppy', but that failed 
miserably with errors about not being able to read the ELF header... The 
kernel version I tried to use siimage.o from was 2.4.25 -- once again, the 
2.4.18 doesnt have this driver in its source tree so I couldnt compile a 
2.4.18 version.

   Next thing I tried was the 'driver-[1-4].bin' images on the CD's... 
None of these would read -- It gave me an error about not being the right 
disks and such, even though I tried multiple floppies (in case one was bad)...

   On to the next thing I've been trying... I thought I would compile a 
2.4.25 kernel and drop it into the Debian 3.0r1 CD image and try to get it 
integrated so I could boot the newer kernel and be able to install... 
Unfortunantly that is proving to be more difficult than I originally 
anticipated...

   Does anyone have any advice for me? Should I continue on the road of 
remastering the Debian CD #1 so I can boot? Is there a way to boot from 
floppies and install from CD? Better still, is there a way to fix the 
'Cannot read ELF header' error? Or is there a way to backport the siimage 
driver to 2.4.18 so I have a real copy of it?

   Any advice would be apprecaited.
