You'll have more success with the soundblaster range if you install and run the alsa packages.
Alsaconf will install the snd-emu10k1 driver for you, it is the right one, and then test it for you.
I'll give alsa a try.
Can anyone confirm for me, though, whether the kernel/drivers/sound/emu10k1/emu10k1.o module is or isn't the driver from opensource.creative.com?
