This is just to report my success with kernel-2.6.0 and USB. Initially
I had the append="hdd=ide-scsi" line in lilo and it apparently caused
some trouble. Seeing postings in the user list stating that this was
no longer necessary, I removed it and then the system booted with no
problem. I have four usb devices attached: an Epson Stylus C82 printer,
an Epson Perfection 2400 Photo scanner, a Sony DVD+/-RW drive and a
usb-to-ide box containing a Western Digital 30 GB hard drive. Initially
the hard drive seemed to be missing but when I unplugged and re-plugged
the usb connection the hard drive partitions were reported as sda1,
sda5, sda6 ... and I was able to mount them. cat /proc/bus/usb/devices
reports speed 12 for the printer and speed 480 for the scanner, dvd
drive and the hard drive. cat /proc/sys/dev/cdrom/info lists the dvd
drive as sr0 with detailed information regarding it's capabilities.
cdrecord --scanbus finds both the dvd drive and the hard drive.
In short, everything seems to be AOK.
