To your .gnus, add:

I also have a slightly more complex setup that allows me to specify the type
of signature I want to use on outgoing mail (i.e. inline, MIME, or none) on
a per-group basis.  I belong to a couple of mailing lists where the
participants get kind of freaked out when they see binary-looking data.  :)
