Not the answer you are looking for, but my experience went like this:

postfix
procmail
courier-imap

You can interchange postfix with exim easily enough.

I was never successful at getting procmail to work with cyrus and the
cyrus documentation is extremely poor.  I tried for 3 months as was very
put out by the lack of support available.  These guys who developed
cyrus did a good product, but the entry barrier is huge.

courier-imap and uw-imap are nice products. uw-imap only does mbox file.
