Hi All,

There seems to be a problem with the ALSA driver not being able to find
my sound card. I can get sound if I use the OSS Driver in XMMS but not
ALSA. I even get sound when I us XINE.

Below is my log:

Mar 14 03:22:49 knsmen kernel: Creative EMU10K1 PCI Audio Driver,
version 0.20a,
20:17:33 Mar 8 2004 Mar 14 03:22:49 knsmen kernel: PCI: Found IRQ 12
for device 0000:00:0f.0
Mar 14 03:22:49 knsmen kernel: emu10k1: EMU10K1 rev 5 model 0x20 found,
IO at 0xe000-0xe01f, IRQ 12 Mar 14 03:22:49 knsmen kernel: ac97_codec: AC97 codec, id: TRA35
(TriTech TR A5)
Mar 14 03:22:49 knsmen kernel: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver
Version 1.0.2c (Thu Feb 05 15:41:49 2004 UTC).
Mar 14 03:22:49 knsmen kernel: ALSA device list:
Mar 14 03:22:49 knsmen kernel: No soundcards found.

When I do a lspci this is my print out for my sound card:
00:0f.0 Multimedia audio controller: Creative Labs SB Live! EMU10k1 (rev
05)
00:0f.1 Input device controller: Creative Labs SB Live! MIDI/Game Port
(rev 05)

When I run alsaconf it also says "No supported PnP or PCI card found. Would you like to probe legacy ISA sound cards/chips?" I know that it's
a pci card because it picks it up in lspci and I can see it's a pci
card.

I'm currently running kernel 2.6.3 and like I said I do get sound but
not using the ALSA driver. I'm okay with using the OSS driver but I
would like to know why ALSA is saying There are no sound cards
available.

If someone can give me some feedback on this that would be wonderful.

TIA

Alex

I also had problems with that. I had to compile the alsa not as modules but direct in kernel.
It worked then.
Kenneth.
