The killer here is SpamAssassin, not amavisd-new.  I ran postfix,
amavisd-new, and clamav on a 133MHz 486, 500-700 msgs/day.  No
problem.  Adding SpamAssassin brought it to it's knees.  SpamAssassin
is a big help for dealing with spam, so I upgraded to a 333MHz PII.
(Gotta love what Linux can do with older machines.)
