OK, thanks to the suggestion for MultiKey, but I myde my way through the jungle myself and solved this the generic way: I have added to the file /etc/X11/xkb/symbols/de key <AD11> { [ udiaeresis, Udiaeresis ], [ aring, Aring ] }; and I can now access å and Å by pressing AltGR+ü and AltGR+Shift+ü, respectively. joerg -- Gib GATES keine Chance!
