Depends on whether you want external servers to be able to use the transports/services on your server. One example is jabber-muc, it's problably good to have a host name for it that is externally resolvable, unless you never plan to invite people on other jabber servers into a conference on your server. As for the transports to other IM networks, they work just fine with host names like aim.localhost, icq.localhost, etc. -- Jamin W.
