The route utility is part of the net-tools package, right?
My debian is an old one (1.3.1) -> is there any problem if I download the
latest net-tools package and install it? Same question for the iproute
utility?

There *is* no inet_route command; this is to say this route handles the
inet (IPv4 & friends) family, I believe. However, this could be
regarded a --help bug, and you might consider filing a bugreport. To do
this, install the reportbug package (apt-get install reportbug) if you
haven't installed it already, and issue the reportbug command.
