Hi all. Perhaps someone can help with a problem I've been having. Been in the process of getting a new box configged (Debian stable), and everything had been going fine. Had been using Firestarter to config the box's firewall, but wasn't completely pleased with it. So I decided to give gnome-lokkit a whirl, and that's where my problems began.
Apparently, dependencies from the install of gnome-lokkit installed and configged a whole lot of other packages as well. (I can't remember all of them but IIRC, some gnome packages and some ghostscript packages were relevant ones among them.) In any case, ever since that, my fonts have been all messed up. Pretty much any text I see - from the text in the GDM login box through the menus in IceWM - look weird (kind of jagged). Anyone have any idea what got changed and how to fix it? I know about the X font de-uglification doc, and read through it and tried some of its suggestions (e.g., changing the font path in XFconfig86) but no help. In any case, I was hoping that someone might have some idea what specifically might have gotten messed up by that specific group of package installs and how I might undo it, rather than general suggestions on how to fix font problems. Also, I'm fairly certain that I wasn't using AA fonts before, and don't particularly like them, so I'm not too keen on a solution that uses AA fonts. Barring some not-too-difficult solution, I think I'm going to have no choice, unfortunately, but to blow away the box and start over, since it's a recent install with very little stuff on it. I'd prefer not to, though, as I've pretty much just finished getting the OS and all the key software installed and configged the way I want it, so it'd be several hours of work to do it all over again. Anyone come across this before and/or have any suggestions? TIA!
