There goes that idea.
Kernel ver. is 2.4.18-bf2.4 #1.
A friend replied that he also had trouble with getting Linux to recognize the built-in Ethernet in his VA FullOn box, and his solution was to install a separate NIC. I wonder if that's why VA originally insisted on their version of RH...
Unless there are any better ideas, my next step is to install a good old 3Com 3C905C-TXM card. The 3Com site is sketchy on drivers -- Debian is not listed among the different Linux flavors -- so I'd appreciate any helpful installation remarks or pointers to drivers/support sites.
A 3c905c should just work. You might need to run "modconf" and select the Vortex/Boomerang driver (or just "modprobe 3c59x" and manually add "3c59x" to "/etc/modules"), although even that's likely to not be needed; when you power up I suspect the system will find the NIC automagically.
