Is it possible that you are talking about "Ground view" and "Sky view"
modes?
They place an overlay over the main screen, depending on your location
and time of the day and could obstruct the vision.
Toggle them on and off with "G" and "A" keys.
I've tested it on Stellarium version 26.2, which was backported from
testing.
