First, thanks to all who responded to my earler message about this
issue.
Your comments, suggestions and recommendations were much appreciated.
Several of you made reference to the contents of the computer . The
motherboard is a Gigabyte B850M with an AMD Ryzen 59600 6-core
processor,
both purchased and installed in September 2026. It is yet to have
anything
in it. Memory size 32768MB.
The BIOS has six sections. Favourites, Tweakers, Settings, System Info,
Boot and Save&Exit. In the Boot section there is indeed a 'Secure Boot
Mode' which I disabled. When I was ready to 'Save and Exit' the 'Secure
Boot Mode' changed to 'Boot override'. The colour changed to orange
from
white. The result? After 'saving and exiting', a return to the BIOS.
The one difference in the BIOS that I found is under the Settings
sections
in USB configuration 'Genetic STORAGE DEVICE 0569... CD-ROM'. A
footnote
reads 'Optical drives are emulated (?) as CDROM.
What would any of you suggest that I do next?
Presume that there's a hard drive in the PC and that the BIOS is not
password protected or anything.
I think if there's a device (usb stick) that doesn't have the correct
information at it's beginning to communicate with then the PC's bios
likely won't list it.
If it is listed you usually can change the boot order and move the USB
stick to the top.
