On all above, instead of @, it's all nulls or spaces or blanks on vt2-6, all
black, except for a blinking cursor @about row 2, column 16 or so. vt1 is normal
residue of boot messages, plus shell prompt.

Nothing I know of, but I imagine problem has something to do with shell prompt
generation and/or ASCII mishandling.
