I think rather it indicates that fully 'secure' email is difficult, but then there is no need for most mailing lists to be absolutely secure. There are enough possible twiddles that people can generally solve any specific issues on a list. So it rather suggests to me that if you have an email account set up to be fully secure for whatever reason, then you shouldn't use that for mailing lists but instead use an account you're happier to discard if necessary. With that caveat, I think mailing lists are still very useful.
