I don't think that trixie has anything to do with it. That kind of alerting has been in the smartctl package for a decade or more, and I don't see how you would get that message unless a SMART attribute really showed that. Upgrading can be a time that re-orders device names though, so that might have caused some confusion. You'll have to make sure you replace the correct drive!
