You are probably wondering about the default IPv6 entries in /etc/hosts ::1 localhost ip6-localhost ip6-loopback ff02::1 ip6-allnodes ff02::2 ip6-allrouters Of course, it is somewhat dumb that those are included in the completion, as you cannot SSH to those link-local multicast addresses, and it is quite rare to SSH into localhost.
