I found gitit, that looks interesting, but I have not found a public

What about Mediawiki? It doesn't use Git for versioning, but has versioning built in. Mediawiki is: If markdown is not a hard requirement (i.e. if you want something that is *like* markdown), MediaWiki's "WikiText" format shares many similarities to Markdown.
