I have 8GB in my older workstation here,  and found it limiting.  I guess it 
all depends on what you want to do with it.  I run a "system monitor" here that 
lets me see how much is being used,  currently about 2.5G,  but that will go up 
once I get done with my emails and start with the web browser.  The new machine 
has 32GB in it,  which should last me a while...
