It is not normal to have to periodically close Firefox to retain performance by the way. I have 3 windows with 100+ tabs and they all stay open all the time for months at a time only being closed when I reboot for a kernel upgrade or something. In the past certainly I have had times where the browser or one of the extensions I use has had a memory leak and this hasn't been possible. It's not a normal state of affairs though.
