I'm not Thomas, but here you go. If you do dd if=/dev/sda1 of=/dev/sdb1 to copy sda1 to sdb1, they get the same UUID. Which makes one question the Uniqueness part. I ran into that, and my solution was to use the actual device names everywhere, something of the sdXY format. Which worked great until I installed Debian, and something in the boot process makes the names switch randomly.
