Wrong. The original post is a MIME multipart/alternative, with a text part and an HTML part. Both contain those "funny chars", which are just maths italics taken from the mathematical alphanumeric symbol block of Unicode (U+1D400..U+1D7FF) [1]. So pretty boring standard. No idea why a Chinese mobile shouldn't be able to display that. As for the crappy HTML -- what do you expect from some random proprietary mailer (Aqua mail, AFAICT). They all suck.
