Maybe look else where than konquerer or sftp?  I tried the above two tests on a 
server I have here and it worked for me. Logged in normally, saw files, etc.

I do not normally use :22 or /root in my connection string, but this did not 
stop it from working on the test server I used.

I did not test this connection string, but do wonder if 'user' has access to 
'/root' which in my systems, the user account does not.
