Hi, About two years ago [0], I installed the package "fonts-noto-color-emoji" on my Sid (Xfce4) system, and from then until several weeks ago, emojis have been displayed throughout the system in glorious color. Recently (several weeks ago?), however, a number of applications have started displaying emojis in (unattractive) monochrome. The applications that I have seen doing this have all been GTK based (Sylpheed, Geany, Gedit); Firefox and Chromium seem to be correctly using color.
Can anyone help me figure out what changed and how to diagnose and fix the problem? I have spent a while searching the web, and I can't find a simple and straightforward way to deal with this. Font configuration on Linux seems to be an extraordinarily complicated and poorly documented mess.
