Could something weird here do that? $ grep LC /etc/ssh/*g /etc/ssh/ssh_config: SendEnv LANG LC_* /etc/ssh/sshd_config:AcceptEnv LANG LC_* $ Perhaps the OP's also sets SetEnv … in the client's config? Cheers, David.
