sg, newgrp, group password?

Does anyone know how to set a group password?
I have tried replacing both the x in the group file and the group- with 
both a DES crypt hash and an md5
crypt hash, but when I do sg audio and type the password, it doesn't 
work.  I never even knew that such
a thing as group passwords existed before yesterday.
