Personally I prefer that. I appreciate being able to break out sub-threads that seem interesting, instead of having that decision made for me. But in any case, ~30% of the posters of this list (the largest single constituency) use gmail which I recently learned will break such emails out to appear to be in a different "conversation" anyway.
