I jumped in the deep end and d/l'd the 2.6 from kernel.org
I'm attempting to use the forcedeth patch (v20), but it isn't showing up in menuconfig. Is it supposed to be in Device Drivers --> Networking support --> Ethernet (10 or 100Mbit) ?

You need to download the latest -mm patch from www.kernel.org.
