It's almost impossible to answer that usefully in such general terms. A segmentation fault means that the program accessed an area of memory which it was not supposed to access. It almost always indicates a bug: for instance, a pointer to some memory might have been accidentally overwritten with junk. Beyond that, I'd need to see specifics.
